Energy Systems Eng. Dept. Seminar by Dr. Ercan ATAM
Title: A talk on potential applications of control, optimization and machine learning in green energy systems.
Date: 10 Mayıs 2017; Wednesday / 10:30

Summary:
Global warming and worries about reliable future energy supply have arisen a substantial interest in clean and renewable energy systems (green energy systems). Moreover, for foreign energy-dependent countries like Turkey, adoption of green energy systems is a must. A sustainable and potentially optimal solution (optimal in the context of mathematical optimization) for energy efficient operation of green energy systems is the use of state-of-the-art optimization, control, and learning techniques. In this talk, these techniques will be softly introduced and their potential applications in green energy systems will be discussed through some case studies.

Short biography:
Ercan Atam received Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2010. He was a postdoctoral researcher with the Computer Science Laboratory for Mechanics and Engineering Sciences at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Paris, France, from 2010 to 2012, working on fluid flow control. From 2012 to 2015, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium, where he was involved in modeling, control, and optimization of energy-efficient buildings. From December 2015 to the present, he has been an independent researcher
supported by TUBITAK and affiliated with the Industrial Engineering Department, Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. He is working on the project “Decentralized Modeling and Distributed Adaptive Model Predictive Control of Multi-Thermal Zone Buildings for Energy Efficiency”.[:]
